Kids Devotion: Psalm 119:11
You can remember a favorite song word for word years after you heard it. You probably sang the song or bounced to the beat of the lyrics so many times that it just became like second nature to you. You may be thinking of that song right now. What is your favorite song?
How important do you think it is that we remember the Word of God? Is it as easy to remember His words as it is to remember your favorite songs? It isn’t as easy to memorize scripture as it is to memorize your favorite beat. Why do you think that is?
The more that we hear something and repeat it, the easier it is for us to retain the information. Kind of like when you study for a test at school or are practicing your math facts. The more you practice, the more knowledgeable you become.
In Psalm 119:11 God tells us that we need to hide His word in our hearts so that we will not sin against Him. Do you know what that means? The more that you learn His word and memorize scripture you are learning the will of God and how to protect yourself from sin. God loves you and wants what is best for you. He teaches us right from wrong in His Word. It is His way of protecting us and loving us.
Every day that we read the Bible together, we are arming ourselves with His protections.
Read Psalm 119:9-16
Ask God to help you remember His Word and He will help you. Take time daily to read His word, and repeat scripture the same way you do when you sing a song. Make His word be the song of your heart.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for protecting us with your Word. Help me to live according to your will and help me to memorize your words. In Jesus name, we pray, Amen.
Psalm 119:11 NIV
“I have hidden your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
