End of Summer Activities On a Budget
It is the end of summer and about that time of year where the kids are beginning to get a little antsy and seriously bored. Time to pull out those last bag of tricks and have some family fun before the school year begins! We have some budget friendly ideas for end of the summer activities an loads of fun!
So, what are your options? You can take road trips with them, but that costs gas money. You can take them to local attractions or activity centers, but those also cost money. You could take them to the park, but it is miserably hot. Luckily there are quite a few options for fun summer activities that you can do at home, without breaking the bank!
End of Summer Activities the Kids Will Love
Arts and crafts. Head to your local dollar store and pick up arts and craft supplies. Since you’re buying them at the dollar store the cost is low and the kids can have hours and hours of entertainment.
Some ideas of crafts you can do:
- Paint rocks in the shape of ladybugs (bonus…this keeps the birds away from your garden)
- Paint pictures of the ocean with watercolors
- Make your own slime – Loads of fun!
- So many other options!
Slip and Slide and other yard toys. Many Summertime yard toys, such as a slip and slide are easily affordable and can provide hours of entertainment for the kids. If you don’t feel like investing in a slip and slide, you can always pull out your tarp and get ready for a quick and cheap homemade slip and slide experience!
Lemonade Stand. A Lemonade Stand is a great way for the kids to earn money and get social while being outdoors. It’s a great math lesson and frankly, it’s just fun. Let them get creative and paint signs and posters for their sale. Invite friends or neighbors to join them. Make it a day of fun in the sun that they can be proud of at the end of the day!
Frisbee Golf. Do you have a back yard? Buy a couple of Frisbees and get a couple of buckets and make your own Frisbee golf game in the yard! You can find easy rules here that you can follow. This can be loads of fun and everyone will get exercise too!
Cooking contests. Summer is a great time to let the kids practice up on their cooking skills. Let them turn it into a game and play their own game of Chopped. They will have a blast and you can get out of making dinner too!
Grow Your Own Fruits and Veggies. Even if you don’t have space for a garden you can grow certain fruits or vegetables in pots in a small space on your porch or in a window box. This is a great learning experience for the kids and once it is time to harvest, it’s fun to eat the food that you have grown yourself.
So, as you can see there are many things you can do for some end of the summer family fun! There are many things that you can do to have fun at home while enjoying time with the kids on their break from school.
